We were hired to install brick veneer on the exterior walls of a new addition. The challenge? Matching the new bricks to the existing ones! Of coursed, we worked carefully on the design, from the solder course on the bottom, all the way to the one on the top. We installed flushing on the bottom and wall ties every 16 inches, horizontal and vertical. We also used type-S mortar. Many contractors use a less-powerful mortar. We spend the extra effort to ensure our work will last a long time. The angle line was pre-primed on two windows and doors. Cleaning the brick wall with an acid cleaner created the final touch.

What a great for relaxing outdoors! We were hired to install a brick patio (pavers) on the backyard, which was about 500 feet. The Soil was difficult to work with due to poor drainage. We removed about 10 inches of soil through out the area. To get it right, we passed several times with the compactor before installing landscape fabric on the top of the compacted soil base Next, we installed 6 inches of ¾-inch process (stone) on the entire area and compacted it again another three times. Then, we installed about one-inch of stone dust for leveling. After that, it was finally time to make things pretty with our pavers, starting with red borders on the outside perimeter and filling in the middle with grey color. After the pavers were installed, we filled the joints in between with polymer locking send and compacted the entire patio three more times. This ensures that the patio is not only beautiful but will hold up to our sometimes harsh New England weather – from snow to high heat!

The right paint job can change the whole look of a room! Once we removed the old wallpaper, we discovered the walls themselves were in bad shape and in need of some TLC before we could make them beautiful again. First up was sanding, followed by a coat of oil primer. Next, we skim coat all of the walls and sanded them again, before finishing the job with latex paint. It’s just another example of how Misto’s Home Improvement goes above and beyond on every job.

Scrub a dub dub! This bath needed a complete renovation. The original cast-iron bathtub was the only thing that was salvageable; everything else was replaced: new electrical, new plumbing (with brass pipes at the owners’ request), tile on the floors and walls – even tile on the ceiling! Plus, we added a new window with internal blinds, custom-built shelves and added a storage compartment. This was one of Misto’s favorite projects – and the home owners were thrilled!

The gorgeous views of downtown Hartford were already there; we needed to complete three bathrooms in this 24th floor condo -- with the unusual request of using the same materials in each. Here is the beautiful master bathroom. Every piece of tile was carefully installed; we made some cosmetic changes to the tiles to ensure that the final result was just perfect. We had to manually mix the grout to exactly match the tiles. We loved how this job turned out – and the owner couldn’t have been happier!

This brand-new bath was added to the end of a foyer of a 1760s house. Combining the old and the new has special challenges. This involved using plaster in one wall and moisture-resistant sheetrock on the others. Other special touches included soundproof insulation on the walls and ceiling, a new fan (exhausted to the outside), a 48-inch shower with subway tiles on the walls, and an eye-catching mosaic on the floor. Gorgeous and practical!

A complete remodel gave this kitchen a new life! First, we decided the walls and ceiling were worth saving, but they needed to be repaired to bring them up-to date. Then, it was on to new recessed lighting, a new window, new cabinets, a new backsplash, a new hood above the stove exhausted to the outside, a new countertop and new vinyl sheet flooring. The floor-to-ceiling remodel made this small space functional and fashionable!

This 500 square-foot patio is perfect for relaxing and entertaining! It took a lot of work to turn this into a space where you want to enjoy the outdoors. First, we did a general sprucing up, including installing the brick wall, painting the exterior and fixing broken windows. We also took care of a few items indoors, such as tiling one bathroom and the laundry room, and adding a backsplash to the kitchen. The patio itself took some time to make sure that the soil was level and properly compacted. It takes longer, but it’s the only way to make sure that the work will last. After placing a border around the perimeter, we used three different sizes of pavers to create a unique look that will stand the test of time.

This spacious ranch seemed like a straightforward exterior painting job until we were preparing for the primer coat. Then, we discovered some rotted boards that needed to be replaced. Most painters don’t do carpentry work; just painting over the boards would have caused major problems down the line. After we replaced the boards, we used oil primer, which is very important when doing exterior painting to ensure the paint lasts. We then painted the entire house with a quality exterior paint. We painted using a brush for these last two steps. It may take a longer, but the end result is not only attractive but long-lasting. We don’t just get the job done; we get the job done right.
